Ironshield Houses

The twenty Ironshiled Houses are the second political tier in Elan, nominally responsible for defence however since the fall of House Rubius they are now also afforded a vote in constitutional matters through the Iron Council.

Ironshield Houses

House Beck
One of the Ironshield Houses, House Beck maintain the largest and most organised of Fortuna's armed forces. Divided across the Beck First Infantry, Beck Second Infantry and the Beck Horse they have responsibilities as a standing army and reserve stationed across the three counties that surrond Fortuna - Morst, Bidewell and Tillwell.
House Canum
An Ironshield House, House Canum maintains two standing armies, The Canum First, Light Infantry and The Canum Second, Heavy Infantry. Both of these are kept garrisoned in Fortuna and they both have a reputation for fighting, brawling and general misbehaviour which the house constantly struggles to contain.
House Galt
One of the Base Houses of Fortuna, House Galt has made it's way to a significant financial footing, without taking time to foster the friendships and alliances that might see it elevated to the Ironshield Houses. The success has been largely due to the leadership of Johan Galt and his many money lending and speculative trading enterprises. He is not known for his honest dealings and consequently, whilst he does have support from the likes of House Stutter, they do not have the political stature to really secure elevation.
House Kreich
One of the Ironshield Houses, House Kreich maintains the Kreichmen mercenary army and has an active fleet of 24 merchant vessels.
House Stutter
House Stutter is an Ironshield House that has a reputation (that it of course denies) for organised crime. The house's legal interests are principally in property within the city, and their standing army The Riverwatch is heavy infantry that serves as garrison to the Fortuna riverside districts.
House Swale
An established Ironshield house with a heritage that runs back to the founding of Elan, House Swale holds a rural seat at Stoneyford.
